OS010 Human-Centered Robotics on Field and Bio-Medical Rehabilitation

Seul Jung (Chungnam National University) The session aims to bring Korean researchers together participating in Indo-Korea Joint network center (JNC) of Research on Human-Centered Robotics.

Robotics has been developed along with the development of automated industries such as automobile production lines or

product manufacturing lines. Specially, robotics technologies have been the state-of-the-arts in military applications.

Recently, however, robotics technologies have been expanded to human applications to help the elderly, the week, or the handicapped.

The theme of Human-Centered Robotics aims robots to assist people in various aspects on health, monitoring, care, rehabilitation, and transportation for the better quality of living in a daily life.

Papers are welcome in this objectives, and sought to deal with new theories, new algorithms, new analysis techniques or design tools, or experimental works for robot application to human beings.

These are some of challenging areas of intelligent systems. The sensing, learning, and control of robots and systems will influence the quality of industrial automation. Meanwhile, the development of advanced robots eases the problem of labor shortage in industry.

Integration of advanced system in sensing, control, and learning are challenged by uncertainty occurred in unknown environments, with the result that the systems become unstable and ill-behaved. For instance, the need of compliant control and dynamic planning can enhance the systems to actively adapt to unknown situations.

In this session, we will focus on new findings and design in intelligent sensing, control, and learning in robots and systems. First, we will discuss the measurement in a control loop. Next, we will focus on obstacle avoidance of robotic arms and advanced control in robotics will be addressed as well. Lately, we will discuss the realization of the sensor network in Cyber-Physics Systems.

OS031 Translational Rehabilitation Robots

Won-Kyung Song (National Rehabilitation Center) The clinical application of rehabilitation robots is a big burden for robotics and control engineers. After the technology development, various attempts such as technical enhancement and clinical researches are additionally required. This mini-symposium would like to introduce the novel translational research for rehabilitation robots which are performed in the National Rehabilitation Center and other universities and companies in Korea.

Session 1 deals with translational research for upper extremity rehabilitation robots. These papers introduce translational research including clinical trials and modeling to expand various clinical applications for upper extremities related reaching tasks and shoulder exercises. For the clinical assessment, the novel device and method to estimate the impedance of the upper limb are presented. In addition, a physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor deals with clinical research on rehabilitation robots, including assistive forces applied to humans from rehabilitation robots.

Session 2 deals with translational research for lower extremity rehabilitation robots and future care robots based on the experience of translational rehabilitation robots and pilot supply program for rehabilitation robots. A simple but effective end-effector-based gait rehabilitation robotic system is introduced. The mimicking concept of coaching of a physical therapist based on the collected data on the movement of the lower limb on a gait rehabilitation robot. The update status of the exoskeleton rehabilitation robot is covered. We will share the expansion plan to the care robot based on our experiences on the research and distribution business of rehabilitation robot of National Rehabilitation Center, Korea.

Sung Hyun Han (Kyungnam University) This paper presents how it is effective to use many features for improving the accuracy of the visual servoing control for SCARA robot. Some rank conditions, which relate the image Jacobian, and the control performance are derived. It is also proven that the accuracy is improved by increasing the number of features. Effectiveness of the redundant features is verified by the real time experiments on a Dual-Arm Robot manipulator system.
