Won-Kyung Song (National Rehabilitation Center) | The clinical application of rehabilitation robots is a big burden for robotics and control engineers. After the technology development, various attempts such as technical enhancement and clinical researches are additionally required. This mini-symposium would like to introduce the novel translational research for rehabilitation robots which are performed in the National Rehabilitation Center and other universities and companies in Korea. Session 1 deals with translational research for upper extremity rehabilitation robots. These papers introduce translational research including clinical trials and modeling to expand various clinical applications for upper extremities related reaching tasks and shoulder exercises. For the clinical assessment, the novel device and method to estimate the impedance of the upper limb are presented. In addition, a physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor deals with clinical research on rehabilitation robots, including assistive forces applied to humans from rehabilitation robots. Session 2 deals with translational research for lower extremity rehabilitation robots and future care robots based on the experience of translational rehabilitation robots and pilot supply program for rehabilitation robots. A simple but effective end-effector-based gait rehabilitation robotic system is introduced. The mimicking concept of coaching of a physical therapist based on the collected data on the movement of the lower limb on a gait rehabilitation robot. The update status of the exoskeleton rehabilitation robot is covered. We will share the expansion plan to the care robot based on our experiences on the research and distribution business of rehabilitation robot of National Rehabilitation Center, Korea. |
